1975 CITROEN CX 2000 SUPER
1975 CITROEN CX 2000 SUPER
Thank you Citroen – you have genuinely enriched my motoring life with this amazing CX 2000 Super…..but thinking back, I’ve had some other fantastic Citroens – an old BX 1400 that gave super-comfortable motoring back in the 1980s, a Xantia Estate that got me back from Land’s End to Langdale in 5 hours and a chunky C3 X-TR that achieved 100mpg between Patterdale and Pooley Bridge. Anyway, back to the CX 2000 Super…..
This car wears it’s heart on it’s sleeve. It’s authentic.
The paintwork is original, not perfect, blistered and faded to some extent, but it somehow just sits nicely with the car. The seats have some damage too, and need restoring to make perfect, or just use some seat covers.
The engine starts up and runs really well, we’ve test driven it 100 miles and it ran without issue, other than a slight oil leak. It feels tight and like you’d trust it to get you to the Alps or the French Riviera.
The suspension works perfectly, lifting the car to drive position a few seconds after start-up. It’s seriously impressive at soaking up bumps too, better than any other car I’ve driven recently.
And then there’s the interior – it’s a masterpiece of design. The simple, twin spoke steering wheel is framed at the top with indicator and light switches – everything immediately to hand. It’s like nothing else you’ll see, a design icon.
The CX has had thousands of pounds spent on restoring the suspension system and on clutch, gearbox, fuel tank and lines, making a great story of this French classic.
It’s also a left-hand drive, originating in France, but correctly registered in the UK with supporting documentation.
There is currently just one licenced CX 2000 Super in the country, and one SORN – making this one of the rarest cars on the road in the UK.
There’s no power steering (later models had it), it’s left hand drive, the seat covers need work and it’s not for you if you want a perfect, shiny paint finish.
However, if you want a very rare, authentic car that oozes innovation and flair, and that you could use as an everyday driver, come and have a look for yourself. I think it’s wonderful. We're open to offers on this French classic - bear in mind it's rarity - just one other model registered on the road in the UK
